Official Summer Kickoff!

God bless long weekends, particularly Memorial Day--a holiday that (in my opionion) should only be spent remembering your departed loved ones over fresh grilled meats and a six-pack of cheap domestic brew. And luckily the fabulous Mother Nature has decided to grace New York City with some 80 degree weather (about fucking time, Lady!) so I did just that--grilled, ate lots, and imbibed until I was red in the face and seeing double.

I also spent part of the weekend picnicing in the park, drinking bloody marys and later kicking balls and getting plowed over by baserunners slidng into second, thus resulting in some severe muscle-achage in my quads and hammies. Whoever says kickball isn't a real sport can check out the nice gash on my elbow (which was NOT entirely caused by drunkenness).

On Monday Joe and I headed out to Long Island to abuse a friend's grill (bbq ribs, grilled pineapple, succotash, tots, onion rings...you get the idea) and to finally enjoy some sun and patio furniture on a REAL patio! I still miss my humble little Bama apartment balcony.

What's on deck for this weekend? An adventure to a Gotham Girls Rollerderby jam. I will most definitely have pictures to share of that one.

A Few Rants

1) Taylor Fucking Hicks is the new American Idol. How the hell is that lousy bastard now worth $1 million? Oh right, he sold his soul to Simon Cowell.

2)When I'm at the gym, I don't read, nor do I watch/change channels/bother with the television that is attached to the treadmills at my gym (it's classy like that). Generally I just focus in on something and run or bring my ipod. So, when I snag the ONLY available machine that just happens to have the Yankees/Red Sox game on, I DO NOT appreciate sweaty meatheads/Yankees super-fans standing directly, and very close behind me as I run and yelling (actually, it was screaming) at the players on the screen affixed to my treadmill. SO FUCKING ANNOYING! Lay off the Creotene asshole, and go home to watch the goddman game! Plus, you should be looking at my ass.

3)New York weather sucks. Sunday I was freezing my titties off playing kickball, and today it's 80 degress. Allergies, a cold, and my sinuses are waging a war inside my head right now and all i want to do is sleep, which is totally pathetic because it's gorgeous outside and about to be a nice long 3 day weekend.

4)My massive consumption of marijuana of late probably does not help my current heath issues, but it is delicious.

A Perfect Saturday.

Joe and I decided to spend Saturday with a few bong hits and a journey to Red Hook for a tour of a very small microbrewery, Sixpoint Craft Ales (www.sixpointcraftales.com). It was totally fun and educational! Thanks to the owner/brewmaster/tour guide, I learned that 1) If one decides to roll up a few hops into a spliff and smoke like a marijuana cigarette, it will get you high for about 30 seconds. 2)One can also make "marijuana beer" by steeping weed into whiskey (to release the THC) before turning it into a home brew. 3)Sixpoint beer is delicious (and free w/a brewery tour!)

We spent the bulk of the afternoon sipping on beers at the brewery before taking a very long bus ride back home. And i've decided i completely love taking the city bus, mostly because you just get to see more of various neighborhoods and people who ride buses are far more entertaining than those on the train. After we made it back, we headed to one of Greenpoint's delicious Polish meat markets, snagged some yummy kielbasa, fresh rye, and tasty mustard, headed to McCarren park to enjoy the good weather and gorge.

Happy to call Queens home

And another reason to hate Brooklyn:

Talladega 2006 Recap

Regardless of the fact that we didn't get to see the actual race, it was (as I fully expected) an amazing weekend. In a nutshell: We ate ribs, we drank lots, Joe got inked, we made hillbilly friends, and drank some more. Here is a link to some pics. A full recap and more pics to come.
